Z Ward, The home for the criminally insane. A 360˚ tour.

The only entrance to Z Ward is via the commanding steel gates

Z Ward, located at the Glenside Hospital, was from 1885 to 1973, the home for the Criminal and Refractory patients. On the 2nd of November the ward was opened to the public, for what would be the last time. After visiting the ward and seeing the history it represented I approached the new owners, Beach Energy, and arranged access to the ward. I spent several hours shooting over 20 360˚ panoramas throughout the facility with the intent to use them to provide a unique record of this institution. In this opening panorama the imposing facade and steel gates of the infamous Z Ward must have engendered many mixed emotions on those conveyed to this point to be incarcerated within it's walls.
